This weekend continued with yet another festival to attend: Greek Fest! Milwaukee is buzzing with talk of Summerfest, which starts this week, but Greek Fest was definitely another great festival to enjoy. The rumor is once we get into the middle of summer there will be so many festivals each weekend that we’ll have to choose!
Greek Fest was held at the Wisconsin State Fair Grounds which are west of the downtown area and was hosted by the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Back home, the Catholic church I belonged to would host a ‘Fall Festival’ every year and Greek Fest was very similar. There was authentic Greek food, music, and rides for kids.
We were starving for some Greek food when we arrived and I opted for the classic gyro which was delicious!
Mike opted to try something new and had a Greek meatball sandwich:
The meatballs on the sandwich were delicious and I would love to recreate them sometime!
After our delicious lunch we walked around for a little longer and checked out the vendors but we didn’t leave without trying some honey puffs and grabbing some baklava to go. The honey puffs are a Greek fried dough and you can add maple syrup and cinnamon. So good!
It was a wonderful festival and hopefully a successful fundraising event for the church! How was your weekend?
